Current Test Capabilities

The current BTL Lab Test capabilities include Workstation Profiles, Building Controllers, Advanced Application Controller, Application-Specific Controllers, Smart Actuators, and Smart Sensors.

If you have a gateway you want to test, please contact the BTL Manager to see if your device can be accommodated.

The BTL Lab has been incrementally adding testing capability over the years. The BTL Mark specifies what Date the device was tested and thus indicates the testing capability available at the time of testing.

 Capability Timeline
 January 2002 B-SA, B-SS and S-ASC devices
 January 2004
B-AAC devices
 May 2005
B-BC devices and testing for Protocol_Revision 4
 April 2008
Same as the May 2005 test package except this package contained
many test corrections applicable to the B-BC device profile
 June 2009
Workstation Profiles

The BTL currently tests the profiles colored in BLUE below:

BACnet® Profiles
B-AWS
[Advanced Operator Workstation]
B-OWS [Operators Workstation]
B-OD
[Operator Display]
B-LSWS
[Life-Safety Workstation]
B-BC [Building Controller]
B-AAC [Advanced Application Controller]
B-ASC [Application Specific Controller]
B-SA [Smart Actuator]
B-SS [Smart Sensor]

If the device is a gateway, the capabilities must be reviewed by the BTL Manager to determine if the lab is capable of testing it.

The BTL Lab can test devices that support the data link implementations colored in
BLUE below:

DATA LINK
ISO 8802-3 (“Ethernet”)
ARCNET
MS/TP
Point To Point
LonTalk
BACnet/IP

The BTL Lab is capable of testing the following routing combinations colored in BLUE below:

ROUTING
Physical BACnet LANs*
Half-routing as per clause 6.7 ASHRAE 135
BACnet LAN and virtual BACnet LAN as per clauses H.1 and H.2 in ASHRAE 135

* Note: The physical BACnet LANs available for testing are limited by the BTL capability of testing the data link layer. See the Data Link chart above.

The BTL can currently test all BIBBS colored in BLUE in the below tables.

Profile Exceptions:
  1. DM-BR-B is tested but not required by a B-BC device profile to be listed due to issues with the current standards requirements. Proposal CN-069-6 has been presented to the SSPC to change the current requirements.
  2. DS-COVU-A,B is not currently tested and therefore, B-BC devices currently are not required to have this feature. The reason this BIBB is not currently tested is that there is no well defined application for this BIBB and there is no interoperable way to configure this feature.
  3. NM-CE-A is not currently tested and therefore, B-BC devices currently are not required to have this feature. The reason this BIBB is not currently tested is that the PTP data link layer is not currently tested.
  4. DM-DOB-A is currently not required for B-BC devices because there is no well defined application for DM-DOB-A and it can be easily done by other means. Proposal to remove from SSPC definition has been made. WS-020
