Dave Robin - Head of Software Development - Automated Logic Corportation

Dave Robin has been with Automated Logic Corporation for 26 years, where he has held a variety of engineering and management roles. Most recently, he was head of Software Development, overseeing the development of the WebCTRL product line, beginning with its roots as a Skunk Works project in 1998. In the 80's, his early prototypes of graphical programming methods using an electrical schematic capture package later turned into Automated Logic's highly successful Eikon application programming suite. As a pioneer of peer-to-peer EMCS networking, his early designs had to be deployed using "engineering samples" of the now ubiquitous RS-485 drivers. Although he had nostalgia for the proprietary protocols that he had designed, in the mid 90's, he and Automated Logic became committed to standardized protocol efforts, becoming active in both the BACnet and LonMark communities. His first BACnet implementation was created while the standard was still in public review, and he has written several stacks since then, both large and small. He is currently serving the BACnet community as chair of the ASHRAE SSPC 135 (the BACnet committee). Among the wide range of technologies that BACnet encompasses, his recent areas of personal concentration are Network Security, XML, and Web services.
